Speed Dating Has Its Benefits

Whether you are an amateur dater or a serial dater, the universal consensus is that dating is a game. It’s competitive, there are rules, egos, a battle of the wits, and a prize for playing your best performance. On a daily basis, the single life feels like you’re trying out a handful of candidates only to choose the strongest player as the “MVP” of your heart.

Truth be told, dating is a game, and like any sport, practice makes perfect. The more experience you have with making connections, leaving positive impressions, and learning what you like in a partner the better you get at learning who’s worth making a teammate.

What Is Speed Dating?

Speed Dating

The notion of speeding up this exhausting process was actually created in 1998 by Rabbi Yaacov Deyo for young, Jewish singles to “identify marriage partners with maximum efficiency.” It was called Speed Dating: a fun matchmaking process whose purpose is to encourage eligible singles to meet large numbers of new potential partners in a very short period of time. An equal amount of suitors are paired with each other and given a time limit for how long they can get to know one another; when the time limit is up the suitors switch pairings until everyone has matched with one another.

For those who have never tried it, the concept may seem strange, but there are multiple speed dating events that take place monthly in Los Angeles alone. The first speed dating event took place in Beverly Hills at a Peet’s Coffee & Tea. Soon after, the trend caught fire and there were even television shows made on the concept.

Why Should I Speed Date?

Relationship Building Skills

“I don’t even want to go on ONE date and you want me to go on multiple?!”—might be the reaction a lot of you are having, but consider these factors before completely shunning the idea:

1. Personal interaction

Unlike dating apps that only let you vet your dating prospects via five pictures and a bio with a character count, you get to meet people in the flesh- hear their voice, get a taste of their personality, see how tall he/she is!

2. Increased chance of follow-through

Because you have already met in person, you know he/she is not a creep and you will not be stuck in an awkward situation, relieving one of the biggest worries in meeting your Bumble (substitute whatever dating app) date.

3. Efficient

Because you are meeting at an event catered towards dating, you know the other party is just as interested and serious about finding a relationship, taking a lot of the guess-work out of meeting online or even in person, where peoples’ intentions may lie a little more in the gray area.

The Spicy Life is transforming the way people view dating by putting on March Matchness, March 29th at the Continental Club. This exciting event is set up more like a game-night rather than a formal speed-dating experience, making it even easier for you to exercise your ability to say ‘YES!’

The evening will start with a live iHeartRadio podcast hosting a panel of hot and sizzling relationship professionals to discuss the best tips on how to communicate and date more effectively in 2018. Everything from a Matchmaker, Relationship Coach, Psychologist, Online Dating Expert, a Relationship Astrologist and Sexpert will be there to arm you with the tools for scoring love.

Last year 150 people attended the event so you know there will not be a shortage of options. Dating is a number’s game, so why not play to win?
